Planning tips
Arranging a wake or memorial gathering at home or in a park
A few practical steps make a gathering more comfortable for everyone who comes.
- Shade comes first. Many guests will be older and services often run through the middle of the day. A pagoda marquee protects people from sun and rain while they talk and share memories.
- Have plenty of seating. Hire enough chairs so no one has to stand for long. Rows suit a service, and smaller groups around tables suit the time afterwards.
- Make space for food and memories. Tables dressed with linen hold the refreshments, photos, a condolence book and other keepsakes.
- Help everyone hear the eulogies. Outdoors, voices are easily lost. A PA with a microphone lets every speaker be heard without strain.
- Consider comfort and amenities. An outdoor heater helps on a cool day, and in a park, or when many people are expected at home, portable toilets and bins take the pressure off.
- Check the venue’s rules. Parks and public spaces may need a permit, which is the organiser’s responsibility. We hold $20 million public liability cover, can supply a certificate of currency and can help with a risk assessment.
Everything is delivered and collected by our team, and the delivery fee depends on your postcode.
